A brave little girl befriends a mermaid, discovering joy and courage in a magical, shimmering pool.

Down, down, down where the water is blue, Little Vedika wiggled her toes and shoes. Splash went her feet, so tiny and small— She peered at the pool, so big and so tall! Vedika wondered, “Is water too deep? Will I float or sink, or splash and leap?” Bubble by bubble, her feelings grew wide— Would she be brave or just run and hide? But a whisper came soft, a song in her ear: “Vedika, come play! There’s nothing to fear!” The water shimmered bright and clear, A mermaid’s tail flapped very near. A mermaid named Mira, with hair green and fine, Swam up to Vedika, her eyes full of shine. “Hello little friend, come swim if you please, It’s gentle and safe, like a warm summer breeze!” Vedika wobbled; her tummy felt tight— The pool looked deep, and her knees felt light.
