Nay was a little Viking with wild, twirly hair the color of honey and big, curious eyes. Nay lived in a cozy village by the roaring sea, where tall, wooden ships with dragon heads bobbed along the waves. The grown-up Vikings wore shiny helmets and sailed far away to new places, but Nay had never gone beyond the sandy shore. One golden morning, while the mist still snuggled on the grass, Mama handed Nay a small, blue cloak. “Today is the day you sail to Little Vikings’ School on the big, important ship,” Mama whispered, hugging Nay close. Nay’s tummy fluttered like a frightened fish. What if the ship was scary? What if the other Vikings didn’t like new friends? Nay watched the busy dock with shivery toes.
